Jiraiya and Tsunade

Jiraiya: Jiraiya was one of the legendary Sannin, along with Tsunade and Orochimaru, who was trained by the Third Hokage. He was a self-proclaimed super-pervert, and wrote a popular adult fiction book series, called Icha Icha. He was also known as the Toad Sage, because of his signature toad summonings and his status as a sage. You can read all about him here!

Tsunade: Tsunade is the Fifth Hokage of Konohagakure. She took on the position after the death of her teacher, Hiruzen Sarutobi. She, along with Orochimaru and Jiraiya, are recognized as "The Legendary Sannin of Konoha". You can read all about her here!

Did you know...?
Jiraiya and Tsunade are two characters from the Japanese folktale Jiraiya Goketsu Monogatari. Jiraiya fell in love with Tsunade, and she had become his wife. In fact, Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru all came from this folktale, along with their summons.
This folktale is another reason why I believe there had to be feelings there.

So why Jiraiya/Tsunade?

Jiraiya and Tsunade has been one of my favorite couples for a while; pretty much since I started watching the series and it came time for them to be in the series together. I liked their relationship, their friendship, and I liked how much Jiraiya seemed to be into Tsunade, but she had no problem turning him down flat.

But while Tsunade was turning good ol' pervert Jiraiya down, I always had a feeling she was into him or had a thing for him at some point. Could it have been just a close friendship from being childhood teammates? Sure. I actually have no doubt that's probably all they ever truly felt for each other (or at least on Tsunade's end).

I was extremely depressed when Jiraiya died...and there was no chance of him and Tsunade hooking up at all. But what really pushed my belief that feelings were there was right before he went off and got himself killed. They had a heart to heart, Tsunade cried over him, just the way they spoke to each other and looked at each other.

I've really always loved this couple, especially because of how amusing they are with one another. Somehow, it can occasionally remind me of myself with my own boyfriend; the way they fight, but still have each others backs.
